ALFRED, NY—The Saxons suffered a loss in their season opener to the Keuka College Wolfpack, 17-6, despite hat trick by senior attack

Alfred University began its season off on the right foot, grabbing an early lead over the Wolfpack when Button charged in on a free position shot to put the Saxons up 1-0. Keuka then rattled off four goals in a row over the next 8:02. Button would get on the board again to decrease the deficit, 4-2. The Wolfpack followed the Saxon goal with five more to increase the lead 9-2 at the half.

Keuka opened the second half with two more goals before the Saxons got on the board for their third goal. The drought was drubbed by freshman middy
Miranda Gilbert (Watertown, NY/Watertown) on a free position shot. Button would then score her third goal of the night only 1:03 later, when senior middy
Kerry Mack (Weedsport, NY/Jordan-Elbridge) dished off the ball near the crease, bringing the Saxons within 7, down 13-5.Â

Mack got in of the scoring with 18:34 to go in the game on a free position shot that she sent blistering past the Wolfpack goalie, Kayla Robinson. The Wolfpack then went on a four-goal streak to end the game, 17-6.

Shannon Gray (Rochester, NY/Churchville-Chili) was in goal for the Saxons, making three saves on the night.

AU looks to rebound next Tuesday, March 24 at home against Wilkes University in Yunevich Stadium at 5:00PM.
