ELMIRA, NY—The women's soccer team was surpassed by the Elmira Soaring Eagles, 5-1, Saturday afternoon during the Saxon's final game of the 2015 season.
 
The Saxons were the first to find the back of the net in the 13^th minute when sophomore Lauren Wyant (Jasper, NY/Jasper-Troupsburg) lofted a ball from 25 yards out over the keepers head to grab the lead.  The Soaring Eagles added a goal on a penalty kick before half time to deadlock the game at one all heading into the intermission.
 
Elmira added four more goals in the second half.  Senior Lexi Flint (Arkport, NY/Arkport) and senior Mary Hendee (Almond, NY/Alfred-Almond) had back to back shots in the 82^nd minute, but were unable to tilt the momentum towards the Saxons. 
 
Sophomore Sammy Jo Shanahan (Valley Stream, NY/Valley Stream) played the entire game in goal for the Saxons, stopping 10 shots on goal.  The 10 saves give Shanahan 150 saves in 2015, leading the Empire 8.
