ALFRED, NY—The Alfred University women's soccer team was defeated at home, 4-1, by Utica College Saturday afternoon at Yunevich Stadium despite taking an early lead.

The Saxons were the first team to score in the game in the 30
th minute. Freshman
Rachel Uhrich (Saratoga Springs, NY/Webster Thomas) chimed in with her first career goal after taking advantage of a mishandled ball by the keeper in front of the net. Heading into halftime the Saxons remained on top, 1-0.

Coming off the intermission the Pioneers quickly knotted the game at one in the 48
th minute. Ciara McIlvenney scored the second goal for Utica to grab the lead in the 67
th minute. Two more Pioneer goals ensued in the 76
th and 82
nd minutes.

Lauren Wyant (Jasper, NY/Jasper-Troupsburg) and freshman
Emily Wright (Dallas, TX/Plano West) supplemented with two more shots on goal in the game. Sophomore
Sammy Jo Shanahan (Valley Stream, NY/Valley Stream South) had 10 saves over 90 minutes of play for the Saxons.
