Junior Madison Palmer earned her first Empire 8 Championship Title as she won the shot put on Saturday during the final day of the E8 Outdoor Track & Field Championships at St. John Fisher College. Coming into the meet, her school record for outdoor shot put was 12.17m. On Saturday, her second toss of the day was 12.40m, breaking the record set in 2020 right before the COVID-19 shutdown as the second place finish was 12.33m in total, securing her the gold before finals even began. In the finals of the event, Palmer’s second throw was 12.60m to rebreak her own record and her third and final throw of the meet was 12.83m. With the win, she earned her first All-Empire 8 First Team Selection and the Saxons 10 team points. Palmer scored four more points with a fourth place finish in the hammer throw, throwing a 39.53m mark. She finished in the Top-10 in the discus throw but outside of the scoring podium as she took 10th in the discus with a throw of 29.00m.
