Junior faceoff specialist Garrette Briggs had an amazing week as he helped the Saxons go 2-0 with a 20-7 win over Houghton College and a 27-2 win over Elmira College. In both games, Briggs had faceoff victories that far surpass the Alfred University and Empire 8 record of 25. In the first game of the week, on the road at Houghton, Briggs won 29-of-30 faceoff attempts and then was 28-for-29 on Saturday at home against Elmira. Both games were his fifth and sixth games of the season with 20 or more faceoff wins as he has had double-digit wins in all 11 games of the season. Briggs also broke the Empire 8 ground ball record with 21 ground balls at Houghton and then 24 against Elmira. He also tacked on two points to his season with a goal against the Highlanders and an assist against the Soaring Eagles.
