Freshman Andy Edmister had quite a showing during the four-day UNYSCSA/Empire 8 Championships last week. On day one, Edmister teamed with Richard Berger, Joseph Lawrence and Patrick Brown in the 200 yard medley relay where they finished fifth (fourth in Empire 8) with a time of 1:35.04. The next day, Edmister teamed with Berger, Lawrence and Alec Toth in the 400 medley relay where they finished fourth (third in Empire 8) with a time of 3:30.07 and then later he swam anchor on the 200 freestyle relay team of Brown, Derek Ciraolo and Lawrence where they took eighth (fourth in Empire 8) with a time of 1:28.43. Edmister earned Second Team All-Empire 8 in the 100 backstroke when he swam a 52.03 (a personal best) to finish fourth overall and second in conference action on day three of the meet. Finally, he rounded out his first collegiate state meet with a sixth place (fifth in Empire 8) finish in the 200 backstroke with a time of 1:55.16 (a personal best) and teamed with Toth, Ciraolo and Lawrence in the 400 free relay for a 10th place (fifth in Empire 8) finish with a time of 3:14.31. In total, Edmister had a hand in earning 230 of the Saxons’ 417 team points in the UNYSCSA Championships as Alfred University finished ninth overall out of the 14 teams in attendance.
