ALFRED, NY—The Alfred University women's basketball team dropped a 69-61 decision to Sage Colleges Saturday afternoon in the second day of action at the SUNY Brockport tournament.
 
The Saxons fell to the Sage Colleges despite putting up a defiant battle to keep the game within reach.  Both Harley Cleary (Rochester, NY/Our Lady of Mercy) and Amanda Off (New Berlin, NY/Unadilla Valley) lead the Saxons on offense, netting 17 points apiece.  Hailey Sick (Dansville, NY/Dansville) was also a strong offensive contributor, putting up 15 points on the afternoon.
 
In the first half the Sage Colleges got out to an early lead on the back of hot shooting making 13 of 29 (40.8%) from the field.  However, the Saxons held their opponents to zero three pointers in the first half with their tough D.  
 
AU, shooting 10 of 33 (30.3%), was always on the heels of the Sage Colleges, only allowing them to get out to a 14 points lead, which the Saxons quickly wiped off the board to bring the game within five points at half.  As both teams headed into the locker room the score board read, 35-30.
 
AU came out in the second half and shot lights out making 13 of 26 shots from the field along with five three-pointers.  Cleary spearheaded the AU attack, making 4 of 4 from behind the arc.  However, the Saxons got into foul trouble at the end of the game and the Sage Colleges took advantage, shooting 16 of 21 (76.2%) from the charity stripe.  In the end, the Saxons were unable to erase the deficit and fell, 69-61.

Following the game, Amanda Off was named to the All-Tournament team, honoring her for scoring 18.5 PPG and grabbing 9.5 rebounds per game while adding five steals and four blocks in the tournament.
 
Alfred (0-2, E8 0-0) are in action again on Wednesday, Nov. 19^th against Wells College in Aurora, NY.
