CANTON, NY – The Alfred University men's basketball team improved to 3-0 (0-0 Empire 8) with a 100-96 win over SUNY Canton on the road Saturday afternoon.
Despite trailing 43-35 to the Kangaroos at halftime, Alfred opened the half with a 6-0 run tying the game at 43-43. AU led by as much as 12 points (72-60) with 10 minutes remaining in the contest. Canton erased that deficit and tied the game at 74-74 with seven minutes left to play. Seven late turnovers allowed Alfred to establish a six-point lead (95-89) with two minutes left in the contest, and secure the win as time expired.
Both teams played an evenly matched game statistically, exchanging the lead nine times throughout the course of the contest.
Freshman guard
Dylan Molloy (Clifton Park, NY/Shenendehowa) led all scorers with a game-high 25 points, shooting seven-for-13 from the field, three-for-six from beyond the arc, and an impressive eight-for-eight from the free throw line.
Senior guard
Thomas Tsatsis (Neponsit, NY/Townsend Harris) helped with 20 points and senior forward
Jason Ruback (Pittsford, NY/Pittsford-Mendon) posted a double-double (10 points, 10 rebounds) for the Saxons. Tsatsis and junior forward
Jeremy Johnson (Martinsburg, WV/Martinsburg (Shepard University)) (12 points) each pulled down eight rebounds and junior guard
Mike Snyder (Pulaski, NY/Pulaski) added 10 points.
AU returns home for a matchup against Pennsylvania College of Technology on Tuesday, Nov. 26, at 7 p.m.
