Lady Saxons throttle Express, 88-58

Box Score ALFRED, NY- The Alfred University women's basketball team improved to 1-2 (0-0 Empire 8) Tuesday evening at the McLane Center, with an 88-58 victory over visiting Wells College.

Alfred established a commanding 15 point lead (31-16) with eight minutes left in the first half after senior guard Rachael Stedman (Hamburg, NY/Springville Griffith) converted a three-point play from a made basket and foul shot conversion. AU led Wells 49-27 at intermission.

The Lady Saxons built off the lead throughout the second half and the Express trailed no less than 18 points. For the game, Alfred outshot Wells from the field (42 percent), beyond the arc (28 percent), and from the free throw line (78 percent).

Stedman finished the contest with a game-high 22 points and game-high six steals (six rebounds, three assists). Junior guard Harley Cleary (Rochester, NY/Our Lady of Mercy) posted 18 points, four steals, and four rebounds. Senior forward Sarah Federico (Buffalo, NY/Holy Angels) and Freshman forward Amanda Off (New Berlin, NY/Unadilla Valley) (game-best eight rebounds) both finished with nine points.

AU returns to action against SUNY Canton on Saturday, Nov. 23, at 1 p.m.
