Monique McLean was appointed head women’s basketball coach at Alfred University in May 2015.
In December, 2016, McLean was featured as the Empire 8 Get To Know Staff Member of the month. (
Click Here For Video) She also was elected as a representative to the WBCA NCAA Division III Coaches' All-America Committee in September where she will represent Region 2.
McLean comes to AU from Bethany College, where she served as a graduate assistant coach for two seasons (2013-14 and 2014-15) before graduating in May with a Master of Arts degree in teaching.
At Bethany, McLean was instrumental in bringing in the Bison’s largest recruiting class in a decade, a 14-player group which included Kelsea Daugherty, the Presidents Athletic Conference (PAC) Freshman of the Year for 2014-15. She was responsible for instruction of guards and development of defensive schemes, managing the recruiting budget, fundraising for the men’s and women’s basketball teams, scheduling, monitoring academic progress of student-athletes, NCAA rules compliance.
McLean was a standout in college, playing four seasons at Division I St. John’s University in Queens, NY. She was a star shooting guard at St. John’s, twice earning Big East all-conference recognition: honorable mention as a sophomore in 2006-07 and Second Team honors the following year. After graduating from St. John’s in 2009 with a bachelor’s degree in psychology, McLean embarked on a four-year professional playing career in Greece, Slovakia and Puerto Rico.
In May 2013, McLean served as a summer league head coach at Denbigh High School in her hometown of Newport News, VA, before taking the assistant’s position at Bethany prior to the 2013-14 season.
