Hillman wins 60-meter title as AU women place 10th at state indoor track and field championships

CANTON, NY – Alfred University junior Miasia Hillman (Buffalo, NY/Hutch Tech) won the 60-meter dash and took second in the 200-meter dash, helping lead the Saxons to a 10th-place finish at the New York State Collegiate Track Conference (NYSCTC) indoor championships at St. Lawrence University.

The two-day championship meet was held Friday and Saturday at St. Lawrence's Newell Fieldhouse. Hillman won Saturday's 60-meter race in 7.88 seconds, just off the pace of her 7.84 preliminary heat time Friday. She was second in Saturday's 200-meter dash in 25.92 seconds. Both times met ECAC qualifying standards.

Hillman's state title was the second won by an AU athlete at this championship meet. On Friday, senior Rebecca Graudons (Mayfield, NY/Mayfield) won the pole vault. Her vault of 3.60 meters broke her own school record and gave her a third straight state indoor title in the event.

Also on Saturday, AU freshman Mary Baughman (Henrietta, NY/Rush-Henrietta) placed 11th in the 3,000-meter run, setting a new school record with her time of 10:45.83.

AU is in action next on Friday and Saturday, March 7 and 8, at the ECAC championships in Boston, MA.
