BROCKPORT, NY -- The Alfred University men's indoor track and field team opened its 2014-15 season Saturday at SUNY Brockport, with sophomore
Jeffrey Nunez (Wurtsboro, NY/Ellenville) winning the weight throw.
Nunez won the weight throw competition with a toss of 15.45 meters; his throw is the ninth best in the nation among Division III athletes thus far this year. There were no team scores Saturday, but several other Saxons also turned in solid performances.
Senior
Eddie Potter (Lansing, NY/Lansing), junior
Greg Matos (Bronx, NY/ELLIS Prep), and junior
Ethan Foster (Bolivar, NY/Bolivar-Richburg) each turned in top-five finishes to pace the Saxons. Potter was third in the 500-meter run (1:09.78); Matos was fourth in the 300-meter dash (37.12); and Foster was fourth in the 1,000-meter run (2:42.65).
Other Saxons turning in top-10 performances were: freshmen
Seth Spicer, Ja'Saun Young and
Jeffrey Daneault, sixth (9.25), seventh (9.44) and eighth (9.48), respectively, in the 60-meter hurdles; and freshman
Matthew Roder (Orchard Park, NY/Orchard Park), eighth in the mile run (4:45.39).
Matos, freshmen
Taquan Thomas and
Matthew Derse (Ontario, NY/Wayne) and Spicer were sixth in the 4X200 relay (1:38.02); Foster, freshman
Kyle Gallo, Potter and Roder were seventh in the 4X400 relay (3:41.88).
