Wood was a two-time All-American defenseman during his four-year career at AU, earning United States Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association (USILA) Second Team honors in 1997 and USILA honorable mention honors in 1996. He is one of only three Saxon players ever to earn Second Team All-American recognition from the USILA.
A team captain and four-year letterwinner, Wood was a First Team Super Six defenseman for the Saxon in 1997, when he led the team in groundballs with 108. Twice during his career (1994 and 1997), the Saxons competed in the NCAA championships, finishing fifth in the final Division III national poll in 1994 and seventh in 1997. Twice (1995 and 1996), the team competed in the ECAC Upstate Championship tournament, winning the title in 1995.
