An honorable mention All-American in 1990 and EAA/ICAC Player of the Year in 1991, he holds AU records for career save percentage (.708), single-season save percentage (.733, 1990), career goals against average (5.38) and single-season goals against average (4.73, 1990).

In 1990, AU held opponents to five or fewer goals 12 times, including eight times with three or fewer goals (one shutout).

McClean lists as his fondest memory as an AU athlete being part of the 1990 team, which went undefeated in Empire Athletic Association play, beating conference rivals Nazareth, Ithaca and RIT en route to the Saxons' first-ever appearance in the NCAA tournament.

McClean earned a bachelor's degree in business administration from AU in 1992. Today, he is business manager for Antares Real Estate Services, LLC, in Westbury, NY. McClean lives in Levittown, NY, with his wife, Kelly, and their son, Cody.
