Unheralded, Henry (Hank) Bzdak came out of Bishop Walsh High School in Olean, NY to carry the football 651 times, set a new record of 3,031 rushing yards and 17 touchdowns at Alfred University.
Bzdak was associated with the "fabulous four" - the teams of 1970, '71, '72 and '73 that won 29 and lost only four games.
During the 1972 season, Bzdak carried 216 times for 1,012 yards thus becoming the first AU player to rush for more than 1,000 yards in a single season. His longest gain that year was 52 yards. He averaged 4.6 yards per carry.
In the same season, he caught six passes for 57 yards, returned 7 kickoffs and averaged 34.0 yards for 25 punts.
Bzdak also was involved in the "Miracle at Geneva" when the Saxons trailing 21-7 with only 6:50 to play, came back to win, 28-21. Bzdak ran 51 yards on a screen pass to set up the winning touchdown.
