All-Conference defensive end for four seasons (1969-72), Gary twice was named Most Valuable Defensive Player and co-captain for three seasons.
In 1971 when the Saxons were undefeated winners of the Lambert Bowl (Eastern Small college Champions) Eggler was selected on the All-New York State small college football team of the NY State Sports Writers Association.
"My biggest thrill at AU," Eggler said, " was playing on the undefeated team from 1971 and accepting the Lambert Bowl trophy at the banquet in New York City."
Other honors at AU include: Outstanding College Athletes of America, Blue Key National Honor Society, American Chemical Society College Student Award, and American Institute of Chemists Award.
