Eugene (Buzz) Keefe was a busy young man during his undergraduate days at Alfred University.
He ran four years of cross country and four years of track & field. He was a member of the basketball team for four years and basketball captain during his senior year.
He also found time to be a member of the glee club, treasurer of his class and president of the athletic association.
Keefe was honored in 1938 when he was named AU's Most Valuable Athlete.
Born in Yonkers, NY, he attended Gorton High School. After AU, Keefer earned a Master's degree from Columbia University.
Keefe held the position of athletic director at Westchester Community College for 28 years before his retirement.
One writer figured it out that Keefe put in something like 76 seasons of coaching six varsity sports.
The man has received an array of honors in recognition of his accomplishments. IN 1983, the NCAA Directors of Athletics inducted Keefe into the "AD's Hall of Fame."
He carries the title of Professor Emeritus at Westchester College.
As a lieutenant, he served in the Pacific during World War II. His wife is the former Jean McClafferty of Hornell, NY. They have three sons: Kevin, Brian and Gregory.
