Brian Keefer was a member of the AU football team four years (1997-2000) and was the Saxons’ starting strong safety for three seasons (1998-2000).
In 1998, Keefer was a Hewlett Packard Third Team All-American and ECAC Upstate First Team all-star after tallying a team-best 115 tackles to go with 4 ½ sacks and four interceptions.
A three-year team captain (1998-2000), Keefer was named an ECAC Upstate First Team all-star after his sophomore, junior and senior seasons. Twice he was honored by USA Football as an All-American (honorable mention, 1999; First Team, 2000).
He finished his career with 317 tackles, which at the time ranked fourth all-time at AU and currently ranks fifth. After his senior year, Keefer was selected to play in the Aztec Bowl, which pitted a Mexican national team against a select team of Division III all-stars.
Keefer played the first three seasons of former Saxon Head Coach Dave Murray’s 16-year tenure at AU. He lists among his greatest accomplishments as an AU student-athlete as being part of teams that helped turn around an AU program that has achieved national prominence.
“There is no bigger thrill than to be part of a team that was integral in rebuilding a program that is now one of the tops in Division III,” he commented. “I truly believe our teams helped set a precedent of hard work and attitude that is alive in the culture of AU football today.”
Keefer earned a bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering from AU in 2001. He is manager of process development for Pall Trinity Micro Co., Inc., in Cortland, NY.
He and his wife, Lori, live in Cortland.
