Brian Gotham was one of the most talented swimmers to ever grace the pool for Alfred University.
In four seasons with the Saxons (2002-06) he was a four-time Upper New York State Collegiate Swimming Association (UNYSCSA)/Empire 8 champion, winning state and conference titles in the 100 breaststroke three times (2004, 2005 and 2006) and once winning a 200 breast championship (2005). His time of 58.16 seconds in winning the 2006 Empire title in the 100 breast was a conference record.
He was a four-time First Team Empire 8 All-Star (three times in the 100 breast, once in the 200 breast) and four-time Second Team honoree (three times 200 breast, once 200 individual medley). Gotham also swam on two state champion relay teams (200 free, 2005; 800 free, 2006) and on eight Empire 8 relay title teams. He was part of relay teams that in 2006 set school records (since broken) in the 200 medley and 400 medley.
Gotham was a freshman on the 2003 Saxon team that won the school’s first-ever UNYSCSA/Empire 8 team title, and that season was named the Empire 8 Conference Rookie of the Year. He swam on the 2005 team that was Empire 8 champion and UNYSCSA runners-up and the 2004 and 2006 teams that were runners-up for the UNYSCSA and E8 titles.
Gotham earned a bachelor’s degree in biology from AU in 2006. He is a firefighter for the City of Syracuse and lives in Jamesville, NY, with his wife, Carrie.
