Alex Yunevich is one the most outstanding coaching figures in American College Football. He was inducted into the AU Sports Hall of Fame during his tenure, and wrapped up his career as the winningest coach in program history (177-85-12). He played his high school athletics at Bicknell, IN where he won 16 letters in four sports. Alex wanted to be a Major League Baseball player. He settled for All-Big 10 fullback recognition on an undefeated football team at Purdue. Alex also captained the Boilermakers track & field team.
Actually, Alex as scouted by the immortal Knute Rockne who wanted him at Notre Dame. Somehow he made a "wrong turn" on the way to South Bend and landed at Purdue. 
Coached the Purdue "B" team one season. Assistant coach at LeHigh. Three years as head coach at Central Michigan. Then he arrive in Alfred, NY in the fall of 1937 to begin his long association with the Saxons.
Six undefeated teams. Five other with one loss. His 1971 team was undefeated and untied and won the Lambert Bowl as small college champions of the East in Division III. During the four-year period from 1970-73, his Saxons won 29 out of 33 games played. In earlier years, the Saxons had a scoring streak that lasted through 56 successive games.
Alex and AU gained national attention when Alex was interviewed by Heywood Hal Broun on the Dan Rather CBS-TV national news show.
Coached basketball at AU briefly. At one time was wrestling coach and continued to coach golf. Honored many times for his contribution to intercollegiate football. Alex was married to Ann.
